Norovirus Alert: Stomach Bug on the Rise!

Writer: harmonyhealthacuheharmonyhealthacuhe

Lately, apart from the flu, Norovirus infections (aka stomach bug or vomiting bug) are spreading fast!  If you or your family experience symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain, follow these essential recovery tips:

  • Stay Hydrated – Drink ORS (oral rehydration solution) to replenish fluids & electrolytes.

  • Eat Light & Warm – Opt for thin porridge to nourish and aid digestion. Avoid cold, greasy, or heavy foods.

  • Rest Well – Your body needs energy to fight off the virus.

  • Try Ginger Tea – If vomiting is severe, warm ginger tea may help soothe discomfort.

  • Wash Hands Frequently – Prevent spreading the virus by keeping hands clean, especially before eating & after using the restroom.

  • Disinfect Surfaces – Use 1:99 diluted bleach to clean contaminated areas and reduce infection risks.

  • Look After Family Members – Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and those with weaker immunity. Seek medical help early if they show symptoms.

How TCM Can Help:

  • Herbal Remedies – TCM formulas like Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Shui, Po Chai Pills, or Kudzu Root Decoction can ease nausea, vomiting, and support recovery (consult a practitioner first!).

  • Acupressure for Nausea Relief – Press Neiguan (P6) point ( three finger-widths above the wrist crease) to ease nausea & vomiting.

When to Seek Medical Help?

  • Persistent high fever

  •  Severe dehydration (reduced urination, dry mouth, dizziness)

  •  Symptoms last longer than 48 hours

  • Most Norovirus cases resolve within two days, but proper care is key to preventing recurrence! Stay safe and take care!
