Please note: this herb may have a strong earthy smell as it is authentic Tai Zi Shen.

Traditionally, Tai Zi Shen is planted in nutrient-rich soil (similar to compost) for two years to allow the rhizome to absorb the nutrients from the ground. In this time, the herb also absorbs the smell of the soil, and because of this, Tai Zi Shen may have a 'musty' smell but that is a sign of a genuine, authentic herb.

Tai Zi Shen (Pseudostellaria Root / 太子參)

Functions:

1. Tonifies Qi (especially Spleen and Lung Qi):

• Gently boosts overall energy for those with fatigue, shortness of breath, or poor appetite.

• Ideal for mild Qi deficiency, especially when full-strength Ren Shen (Ginseng) is too strong or too warm.

2. Nourishes Yin and Generates Body Fluids:

• Helps with dry mouth, thirst, and dryness due to Qi and Yin deficiency.

• Often used after illness recovery, especially when body fluids are depleted.

3. Supports Digestion:

• Strengthens the Spleen, helps with tiredness after eating, and supports recovery from overwork or long-term stress.

💡 Commonly Used For:

• Post-illness weakness

• Recovery from surgery or childbirth

• Chronic fatigue

• Poor appetite

• Mild dry cough

• Yin and Qi deficiency in children or the elderly

Comparison with Ren Shen (Ginseng):

• Tai Zi Shen is gentler, less heating, and more suitable for those who are easily overstimulated or have weak digestion.

• Sometimes referred to as “baby ginseng” for its mild but effective tonifying action.
